WORLD KUMITE ORGANIZATION TOURNAMENT RULES & REGULATIONS

The World Kumite Organization has adopted a special set of rules in relation to judging  the world tournament held in Thailand. This new system is designed to eliminate confusion among viewers and TV audience. After discussing with the various networks The WKO and ISMA have found that the reason most of the networks do not broadcast Karate tournaments is due to the confusion from viewers with the flag and points system. We have been advised and following that advice from the net works to devise a system of judging that not only is captivating to the audience and easily understood by all. The Kumite is based on the strongest fighter being crowned the champion therefore the rules designed a based on all of the above. These changes allowed the 2008 World Kumite Championships to be aired on a global network to 150 country’s through out the world. Due to all of the above the WKO has introduced a  set of rules based on a 10 point must system of judging similar to Boxing ,Muay Thai, K1 and UFC as shown in the attached  revised rules. Both the networks and the WKO agree the points system based on a 10 point must will define the stronger and aggressive fighter.

Basically the changes are as follows:

  1. The stronger fighter will receive 10 points the weaker less dominant fighter 9 points.

  2. Each bout will consist of 2 x 2m rounds with the possibility of a 1.5 minute extension.

  3. The stronger and more aggressive fighter will receive 10 points and the less stronger 9 points  per round.

  4. If a Genten (Penelty) is awarded in a round that fighter will only get 8 points for that particular round. Only 1 genten per round can de awarded. If a fighter receives 2 gentens within a round he or she will be disqualified.

  5. If the more aggressive fighter receives a Genten then he will receive 8 points for that round and his opponent the less aggressive fighter will receive only 9 points. This means the stronger fighter still has a chance to draw and fight an extension providing he wins the second round.

  6. If a fighter is knocked down with a strike or kick and cannot stand to his feet with in 3 seconds  this will be classed as an Ipon , at this point the bout will be stopped and the other fighter will be declared the winner by Ipon

The Networks believe this is the best way to promote the show as it can be promoted “ONLY THE STRONGEST WILL SURVIVE”
