Rules and Guidelines

 

Referees and Judges Meeting
Saturday 31st July, we will be holding an official Judging & Referee meeting at Melbourne Martial Arts Academy at 3pm. This meeting is vital for ALL to attend. We will be covering everything from rules & expectations to uniforms & procedures. We understand & respect you all have Judging or Refereeing, experience, but we must cover these topics in order to run a successful and consistent event. Please note: if you do not attend this meeting, you can not take part in Judging or Refereeing.

Weigh-In
There will be two official weigh-ins. One on the 31st of July at Melbourne Martial Arts Academy from 1—3pm. The second weigh-in will be held at the Reggio Calabrian Club, the day of the event. Competitors must weigh-in before the tournament begins.

Rules and Regulations
The junior event begins in the morning, at 10am sharp. It will be light contact to the body & legs with no contact to the face. Padding for the juniors is compulsory: shin & instep guards, cotton hand mitts or leather fingerless gloves, groin guards for males, mouth guard, head guard, & optional chest guards for females (soft type only).

Under 14 Juniors will fight 1.5 min rounds with a possibility of 1.5 min extensions. Finals are also 1.5 min rounds with 2 x 1.5 min extensions, if necessary. Afterwards, a final decision must be made.

Colts & under 16 Juniors will fight 2 min rounds, with a possibility of 1.5 min extensions. Finals will also be 2 min rounds with 2 x 1.5 min extensions, if necessary. Afterwards, a final decision must be made.

The afternoon event begins at 1pm, the full contact event will start with Colts, protective equipment is required, same as the juniors.

There are two Adult Belt divisions, each with three weight categories . 5th kyu & under must wear shin &instep protectors. Males must wear groin guards. Females have the option of soft type chest guards. ALL competitors must wear mouth guards. All 4th kyus, & above, will start the Open Division with no protective equipment, however, mouth guards are compulsory. Also, males must wear a groin guard.

The tournament will be held under Kyokushin Karate Rules. The rounds will be 2 minutes with a possibility of 2 minute extensions. One extra 2 minute extension may be awarded in the finals.
